Day 145 - Volunteered in Moore

After the devastation in Moore our church contacted another church in Norman, Oklahoma that was organizing volunteer efforts to help in the community.  A group of 10 of us met at the church this morning and headed out to Moore.  It was about a 3 hour drive and once we arrived we signed in as a group to receive an assignment for the day.

The first couple of hours in the morning we moved supplies from the church into a huge makeshift supply tent outside the church that was the size of a football field.  Around lunch time we were assigned to a home that had been affected by the tornado.  We spent the rest of the day cleaning up debris, cutting down huge 100 year old trees and visiting with the family that had been affected.

It was a rewarding experience and to drive through the town and see the outpouring of support on every corner was amazing.  You couldn't go a block without seeing tents with groups passing out free food, supplies and assistance to those who had been displaced due to the storm.  It was wonderful to see how many people had come out to help, traveled hours to volunteer or who were bringing supplies.
