The idea for today's random act came from a friend in my women's bible study group. She is a middle school teacher and told us that someone would anonymously leave post-it notes on the girls' bathroom mirrors in the school. We all know how hard the pre-teen and teenage years can be, especially on young women. The media's definition of beauty and success can be extremely distorted and we can all fall victim to those images and expectations.
These little notes would remind the girls how beautiful they are and that they are loved and special. My friend said that not only would they positively influence the young girls but also female teachers and staff as well.
So we decided to do something similar in every business we visited today. The girls helped me write encouraging notes and we placed them in the bathrooms of a family-owned Mexican restaurant, the local Goodwill, and 2 gas stations. We also placed them on the side mirror of cars in the parking lots.
We hope these can remind a few women (and men) that we are all uniquely made and all have people who love and care for us. We all have individual gifts and talents that can make a difference in this world and we can't let those gifts go unused. If you are reading this, know this...YOU ARE LOVED AND YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!
Day 125 - Encouraging words on bathroom mirrors
A year-long journey to give back and make people smile. “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.” ― Lao Tzu

Day 124 - Free Positive Thoughts
“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”
- Abraham Lincoln
A positive attitude is such a wonderful thing to possess. Everyone needs encouragement, and positive thoughts can help improve a person's mood if they are in a negative place. This is something I am always striving toward. To find the positive in any situation and know that tomorrow is always a new day full of new opportunities.
So for today's random act of kindness I posted these flyers with different positive thoughts. I hung these up on a couple of grocery store bulletin boards and also gave it to managers at Target, CVS and Walgreens to place in their employee break rooms.
Hopefully these thoughts will find the right people and turn a few days around. My hope is that they may encourage someone to go out on their own to positively affect another person.

Day 123 - Kind Over Matter Lolli-Flowers
I came across a super cute random act of kindness today online and had to do it. This blogger even provides free printables to make it so easy for you! We printed these up and attached them to some lollipops that we actually received as a gift this week.
We left them at some local Red Box locations, ATMs, a few car windshields and a few car door handles. Hope these bring a smile to a few faces this evening!!

Day 122 - Ate Tacos To Raise Money for Imagine
I think most parents with children in school understand the frequency of "Spirit Nights" where restaurants donate a percentage of their proceeds to a local school. A great excuse not to cook and just spend time with the family. Just the other night we made a quick stop at a local restaurant and there were actually 2 schools holding spirit nights on the same night.
Today the girls' school hosted a Spirit Night at Rosa's Tortilla Factory. Definitely on the top 5 of our most frequently visited restaurants. We thought it would be a great opportunity to head out to Rosa's, visit with friends and enjoy some yummy food for a great cause.
So for today's random act of kindness the girls and I enjoyed some tacos and chips and guac to raise money for Imagine. Yummy!

Day 121 - Surprise Fun in a Bag
I love summertime! Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, glow sticks and late nights playing and dancing outside. Recently we became aware of a family going through a rough season at home. After confirming some information we headed out to pack a fun little gift bag to hopefully brighten their day and let them know that someone is thinking of them.
So for today's random act of kindness we packed up some bubbles, sidewalk chalk, glow necklaces and bracelets, a little gift card and a note of encouragement for a family. We did an evening drive-by and left it on their porch anonymously. I hope their family has some fun with the items and are encouraged by the fact that people are thinking about them and praying for their family.

Day 120 - Supported a Friend
Last week was our Relay for Life event and it was an overwhelming experience. All the work that went into fundraising and getting everything organized was more than worth it. Seeing all those survivors, caregivers and others that have joined the fight to end cancer was amazing.
Since Relay for Life is a national program, events occur throughout the year. This weekend a friend of mine from college is participating in her local Relay event in California.
So for today's random act of kindness I supported her in her fundraising efforts. A world with less cancer is a world with more birthday!!

Day 119 - Pledged to Never Text and Drive
I have been known to check my phone or text at the stop light while driving. Such a bad idea and today I took a pledge to no longer text and drive. No text message, email, website or video is worth the risk of endangering my life, my kids' lives or the lives of others on the road.
AT&T has a texting while driving campaign called It Can Wait that urges everyone to take the pledge not to text and drive. To bring awareness they have an online texting and driving simulator, No Text On Board stencils for notebooks, skateboards, bikes, and laptops, bumper stickers for your car and so many more educational resources. I urge you to check out there site and take the pledge!
Here are just a few texting while driving facts:
Tell the world! No text is worth the risk!

Here are just a few texting while driving facts:
** Texting drivers are 23 times more likely to be in an accident
** 75% of teenagers say texting while driving is "common" among their friends
** 100,000 + crashes a year involve a driver who is texting
